Lend Lease recognised in Business in the Community’s 2011 Awards for Excellence
Lend Lease has scooped the overall Example of Excellence prize in the Norse Commercial Services Work Inclusion Award category of the Awards for Excellence last night (5th July 2011).
Now in its 14th year, the Awards for Excellence is a prestigious annual showcase of the UK’s best responsible businesses in action. The Awards highlight the best examples of the positive impact businesses are having on the environment, amongst their employees, through their supply chains and in the local communities in which they operate.
Lend Lease beat off stiff competition from finalists Balfour Beatty and Chapelfield Shopping Centre to be chosen as the winner for the work done by our not-for-profit company Be Onsite. Be Onsite was set up in 2007 to respond to community needs and build local partnerships, providing disadvantaged people with industry-relevant training and sustained employment within the property sector.
Chair of the Awards for Excellence judging panel Patricia Fuller from Norse Commercial services said of us: “Be Onsite is an inspirational programme that is well supported at all levels of the business. Lend Lease is clearly committed to supporting people from excluded groups to build successful working lives. Over 250 people have been trained by the programme since it started and 150 have found permanent employment – a fantastic achievement for individuals, communities and businesses alike.”
The awards gala dinner event was hosted by comedian Jack Dee and BBC broadcast journalist Mishal Hussain in front of a packed audience of over 1,000 high-profile business leaders at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Lend Lease EMEA CEO, Dan Labbad said: “I am tremendously proud of Be Onsite and its many achievements and we are delighted to have our work endorsed in this prestigious manner by both our peers and Business in the Community. But we are not complacent and are well aware of the challenges ahead and so we are determined to build upon our work in this field and help as many people as possible out of worklessness and into direct, sustained employment on our projects.
