BeOnsite is an economically sustainable, not for profit
organisation, established by Bovis Lend Lease to provide employer-led training
to address skills shortages in the construction industry.
BeOnsite is a fresh
approach to addressing the skills shortage and delivering sustainable
construction jobs and training to the communities we work within. There are
three strands to Be Onsite; job brokerage, supported employment and training.
It
is the culmination of eleven years of leading the industry in linking local
people to construction training and jobs resulting in almost 10,000 people
finding construction employment, and a further 11,000 people going into retail
jobs.
BeOnsite identifies the gaps in current training provision. It focusses on
ensuring that demands for emerging technological and sustainability related
skills are met. This collaborative approach working with Industry, Government,
sector skills councils and training providers looks to ensure the industry gets
the training provision it needs, the individual gains sustainable careers, and
the UK remains competitive within a global economy.
BeOnsite works within the industry to identify the exact training needs of the individual contractor. It then sources both the funding and the training provider to deliver this bespoke training. Following this, the candidates are then recruited to be trained. Following their training successful candidates are employed by BeOnsite for to begin working on site for the contractor, under their supervision, on a “try before you buy basis”. Fees are matched to the current market rate and BeOnsite operates on a not-for-profit basis with any surplus being reinvested in training.
The individual benefits from BeOnsite as the scheme offers specific training that will lead to a job for successful candidates. Candidates are coached and fully supported throughout their training. Once they have successfully completed their training BeOnsite will employ them and continue to provide support whilst they work under the supervision of specialist sub-contactors that they have been fully trained to work for. The aim of BeOnsite is for the individuals to then continue to develop their career in whatever status suits them best.
In summary, Be Onsite aims
to meet the aspirations of Government; the hopes of the communities in which we
work; and the needs of the industry.
